BSA Troop 1191
Fund Raising and Fee Information
As you might expect any organization has some financial costs in addition to the volunteer labor.
No boy will be prevented from participating due to difficulty paying the fees. Arrangements can be made and fees can be paid in installments. Please contact the committee chairman.
The troop has a basic activity fee of $50** per family. This is the source for part of the cost of operating the troop. We have a number of expenses including tents, lanterns, postage, trailer space rental, tag and maintenance. In addition to this, the troop participates in the annual Circle Ten Popcorn sale and we retain a portion of the money raised in this activity. The rest of this money is used to fund council functions including the many camps we use. Finally, we have garage sale in the Spring which makes up the balance of our income.
Every scout is expected to participate in the fund raising efforts. Not only is it important to support the troop, but it's important to support the council as well.
The annual registration fee is $10.00 and this is paid to national. If a scout transfers from another unit and is on their roster and registered, then the transfer fee is $1.00.
For new members and transfers from cubs or other troops, the fees are prorated. Our troop re-charters in January and collect the activity fees in December. The schedule is as follows; if you join in Fall the activity fee is $10**. Scouts joining in the Spring pay a $30** activity fee. At renewal time all scouts pay a minimum $40** activity fee. Transfers can be confusing, since your renewal may have been at a different time.
Boys Life subscription is $12.00 per year. A real bargain! This is collected at re-charter or when you register with the troop, and new subscriptions should start 8 weeks after recharter, around the first of April.
I've tried to simplify the prorating with the following table.
| Fall | Renewal (Dec) | Spring | |
| Troop Activity Fee | $10 | $50** | $30 |
| National Fee | $4 | $10 | $6 |
| Transfer Fee | $1 | $1 | $1 |
| Boys Life | $4.00* | $12.00* | $8.00* |
| Total (new) | $17.40 | $70.80 | $43.40 |
| Total (transfer) | $15* | $64* | $31* |
* On a transfer ... The boy's life subscription may be
different based on the renewal date of the prior organization.
** The Troop activity Fee for Renewal may be slightly higher based on individial scout's
level of participation in the Popcorn sales fund raiser. Contact Troop Comittee Chairman
for exact amount.
Campouts: The troop has had a policy for several years of charging each boy a $5 travel fee if a parent does not attend the campout. Collected travel fees are used for incidental troop expenses on the campout The patrols are usually responsible for their own meals. Typically, this comes to about $10 for a weekend campout. Some activities like the canoe trip or horseback riding have additional costs. This information will be sent out in advance of the activity.
Webelos participating in campouts with the troop are our guests and do not pay for transportation or food. However we require at least one adult Webelos leader for every two visiting Webelos scouts. Special activities like horseback riding and canoe trips may involve extra costs.
The troop has traditionally paid the cost of registration for Camporee.
Adult registration is $10.00 per year. At least one parent of each scout should be a registered adult leader. Without active participation by parents the program can not function.
Any questions or suggestions about fees, fund raising or troop operations, please contact the committee chair or come to the committee meetings.
